What to do?

Don’t Panic – Act Quickly

Fraud and scams can happen to anyone. The faster you act, the better chance you have of limiting the damage and possibly recovering lost money.

Report It Immediately

  • Contact your bank or credit card provider as soon as possible. They may be able to stop or reverse the transaction.

  • Report the scam to Action Fraud

Keep All Evidence

  • Save screenshots, emails, messages, receipts, or anything else linked to the scam.

  • Don’t delete communications — they may help with investigations or claims.

Contact the Police (if urgent)
If you’re at risk, or if the scam involves a face-to-face interaction contact South Wales Police via 101 or 999 in an emergency.

Warn Others

Let friends, housemates, or coursemates know — especially if it was a common scam (housing, tuition fees, fake job offers, etc.). You could help prevent someone else from being caught out.
