Dormant Student groups are groups with no current committee that have fallen inactive over a longer period of time.

Way we determine whether a Student Group is dormant is whether societies have the Minimum Operating Standards for Societies in place.

In short, these are: -

  • Core 3 committee roles are in post (President, Treasurer and Secretary)
  • 20+ members annually
  • Financially sustainable

Rather than removing Student Groups off our system, we prefer to keep them open to be taken over by an interested group of students to restart. To do this the following Adoption process must be followed:

Adoption Society process:

Fill in the Leading Your Society form, this form will goes to the Societies Executive Committee, chaired by the Societies and Services Officer, who review your application on a monthly basis.

If your application is approved, you will be invited to do some training and we'll get you set up on the existing societies webpage and email account. Once this is all done, the society is in your hands and you can start updating your new group!
