How to obtain a food hygiene certificate?

If your society or student group is baking, cooking, or serving food or drinks at an event — such as a bake sale, social, or fundraiser — at least one committee member must hold a Food Hygiene Certificate.

How Many People Need It

  • Only one certificate per cooking location is required.

  • The trained person must lead and supervise the food preparation.

  • We can’t guarantee more than three committee members per group will be given access to training through the SU due to high demand.

Why It’s Important

Food hygiene training helps keep everyone safe by ensuring food is handled, prepared, and stored correctly. It reduces the risk of food poisoning, allergic reactions, and contamination — and shows your group is acting responsibly.

How to Get a Certificate

All training is completed online through our system, Expert LMS.

To register:

  1. Send us the name and student number of the committee member who needs the training.

  2. We’ll set them up on Expert LMS and enrol them in the Level 2 or Level 3 Food Hygiene course.

  3. They’ll receive full instructions by university email.

  4. Once completed, please send the certificate back to us for our records.

Please note – training spaces fill up quickly, but we review requests regularly.

To sign up, submit a ticket through hello.swansea-union.co.uk with the details listed above.
