Considerations when deciding on applications

When considering New and Adoption society applications the following should be considered:

  • Is the Society unique? Are there any similar societies that their activity might clash with. You can check out the list of Societies here
  • Is it something that other students would be interested in? Are all the required signatures on the form?
  • Have they filled the required the core committee positions of President, Secretary and Treasurer?
  • Is the opportunity financially sustainable and viable to members? Would you recommend a change in membership?
  • Are their reasons for proposing this new Student Group valid? They'll have a lot of responsibilities leading a group and need to be organised, so it's great if it's for employability reasons and you're very passionate. Some groups don't succeed after the first year because they were purely temporary endeavors, so please ensure their intentions to carry through are genuine.
  • Ensure all necessary sections of the application form are complete

When considering Finance request applications the following should be considered:

  • All aspects of the form are completed
  • The activity or reason for applying for the funding is reasonable and will benefit the Society, it's members and maybe the wider community
  • It will benefit a number of people within the society, especially those holding a Standard membership
  • The activity will have benefits for the wider environment such as helping to offset environmental impacts
  • Is it for a one-off event or conference?
  • Is the cost reasonable? We normally query anything over around £500
  • There is a reasonable contribution from the Society and it's members to subsides the overall cost
  • Are the costs listed in the proposal breakdown reasonable? (for example, if they are requesting funding for venue hire, is it an accurate reflection of the costs, or will they be able to find a cheaper, suitable alternative)
  • Are they organised and have they already got a plan for their particular event or activity?

Applications that meet these considerations will be more favorably looked upon.
