STARS Awards


STARS Awards, or Society Tier and Reward System is a term-long award for which you will have to complete a series of criteria. These are outlined below:


Bronze:

  1. Have a membership of at least 10 members
  2. Attend the Student's Union AGM
  3. Hold/attend 1 sustainability event, such as a beach clean
  4. Adhere to the Society Constitution and Code of Conduct
  5. Adhere to the Students' Union Social Media Policy
  6. Ensure all Society funds are held within the Student Group Finance (SGF) system
  7. Have a positive bank balance by the end of the year (or, if you inherited debt, decrease it)
  8. Hold an AGM, run a democratic committee election, and submit the minutes to the Societies Team
  9. Ensure all information on your SU webpage is up-to-date
  10. Attend Committee Training
  11. Attend at least 2 Know-How sessions 
  12. Host at least 2 non-alcoholic events 
  13. Hold at least 1 meeting per fortnight OR 1 event during the year
  14. Host/contribute/attend at least 1 meeting/event on both campuses


Silver:

(compulsory) 

  1. Complete all Bronze criteria
  2. Attend at least 4 Know-How sessions
  3. Attend at least 2 Student Forums
  4. Host at least 3 non-alcoholic events 
  5. Host at least 1 meeting per week OR 2 events during the year
  6. Host/Contribute to an event open to the entire student population
  7. Engage/meet monthly and provide feedback to the Societies Executive Committee member representing your category
  8. Volunteer/raise money for a charitable cause
  9. Host/contribute to/attend at least 2 meetings on both campuses
  10. Host/attend 3 sustainability events, such as a beach clean 


(Choose 5 optional criteria from below)

  1. Have an active social media presence
  2. Successfully apply for funding from the Societies' Grant Fund
  3. Host a talk/workshop by an internal speaker
  4. Host a quiz/debate 
  5. Increase your membership from the previous year by 10%
  6. Contribute to a SUSU event
  7. Host a study session at least once per term
  8. Host/contribute to/attend a trip that goes outside Swansea
  9. Have a logo
  10. Host a Give Societies a Go event


Gold:

(Compulsory)

  1. Complete all compulsory criteria (Bronze and Silver) and 5 optional criteria for Silver
  2. Attend at least 8 Know-How sessions
  3. Attend at least 3 Student Forums 
  4. Host at least 5 non-alcoholic events
  5. Host at least 2 meetings per week OR 1 event per month
  6. Complete a successful HEAR portfolio
  7. Look into merch for your Society 
  8. Hold at least 2 events on both campuses
  9. Host/contribute/attend at least 5 sustainability events, such as a beach clean 


(Choose 5 optional criteria from below)

  1. Increase your membership from the previous year by at least 20%
  2. Host a SUSU collaborative event
  3. Contribute to at least 3 collaborative events
  4. Host a talk/workshop by an external speaker
  5. Host a study session at least twice per term
  6. Host/contribute to/attend a trip abroad
  7. Get actively involved with a University department
  8. Get actively involved with the local community
  9. Run/get involved with a campaign
  10. Host an event open to the public 
  11. Host/contribute to/attend a non-SUSU Societies event
  12. Create an original event 



How to Apply for STARS Awards:

Be sure to document all your accomplishments in one portfolio throughout the year. Once you have accumulated all the evidence, send your application through to hello@swansea-union.co.uk to be reviewed. 


At this stage you're probably asking - what is the point? Please read about the rewards below:


STARS Rewards:

Upon completing all Bronze criteria, you will be automatically entered into a £50 voucher lottery for your Society. The winner of the lotteries will be announced at the End of Year SU Awards Ceremony in the second term.


Upon completing all compulsory Silver criteria and 5 optional criteria, you will be entered into a £100 voucher lottery for your Society. You will also receive a voucher for Y Stiwdio. 


Upon completing all compulsory Gold criteria and 5 optional criteria, you will be entered into a £150 voucher lottery for your Society. Your committee will receive free Summer Ball tickets, and you will receive a free bottle of bubbly at the End of Year Ceremony. 


Aside from the above, your Society will receive a beautiful badge that will be displayed on the SU page.


The deadline for applications is towards the end of April (the SU will communicate the exact date in due course).
